Protein Skimmer Question

:notsure:
I have had my saltwater tank up and running for 3-4 months now. I am currently using the Red Sea Prizm skimmer which states it works for any aquarium up to 100 gallons.
The first few weeks the collection cup would have stinky stuff in it. Now there is never anything in it. It still produces the small bubbles.
Is this normal? Am I operating this correctly?
Thanks.

Sadly the Prizm is a pretty cheap skimmer and may be dying a slow death. I'm not familiar with the set-up of that skimmer so I'm not sure if any adjustments can get out of wack...maybe somebody with the same skimmer might be able to help.

Another sad story...that sentence doesn't exist. You can go cheap and ineffective or expensive and officient. The best skimmers for the price is either the AquaC Remora Pro or Excalibur HV2 for your setup. Both will run between $180 and $225 depending on your location. After those two skimmers, you are looking at something around $400.

I purchased a AquaC Remora Pro w/ Mag 3 Protein Skimmer last night on an online auction site. I paid 175.00 for this. Is this a good price? Also, is this the good skimmer everyone is referring to?

Have you tried cleaning it?

Maybe you should play around with the air valve. I have a Seaclone protein skimmer, I've heard bad things about it but I've found that once you get the air valve at the right point it works great.

Maybe since your levels are low it isnt pulling anything out of the water.... There is not much to be pulled out.
