protein skimmer setup, need help!

I bought a protein skimmer(used).It is kind of resembles a bakpak. But anyways the canister that collects the bad stuff has an o ring around it for adjustments. So what I'm asking is how far should the canister be in the water?:notsure:

experimentation is the key. with my aquaCremora, the higher the collection cup is, the more dry the skinmate is. the lower the collection cup, the wetter, (is that a word?) it is one thing you can do is apply vasoline to your o-ring, it will help prevent it from cracking FYI
