protein skimmer vs. diatom algae

will a protein skimmer help control my diatom algae issue? i've heard mixed thoughts about the issue, so i'm unsure right now. when i do get my protein skimmer, what is a highly recommended brand?

I have a Euroreef and love it. I used to have a prizm and I did not like it very much. Mine was about $200. Do get a good one, it is probably going to cost at least that for your 75g. And I would not think that a skimmer would fix the diatom problem per se. What it should do though is correct the water problem that is causing your diatom problem. They would then my skimmer out after dying off.

Well it does help it from getting too out of hand but not really control it. Diatom is just common to have and algae is always an ongoing battle even with everything doing well. All you can do is try to control it with water quality and find its source to fight it.

i am to assume your using RO/DI water and not tap water, right ?
tap water will in fact feed diatom algea
