Protein skimmer

I was told today that I shouldn't use my protein skimmer until my tank was established. Just wondering what other people thought.

Thats a good question.. I'm currently cycling my 240G tank, for my reef tank. , and I have 2 protein skimmers running,, and there is so much craps coming out of the water.. I thought by running the skimmers, it will help with clearing up the water and getting all the nasties out, before I start dosing the tanks with calcuims and other goodies for the water..

I have asked this question in the past, and people say that it's fine to run it during the cycle.

I run mine durning the cycle. No real dark skimmate but you still skim stuff from the liverock placed in the tank.

You can run it or not run it, either way..... :happyfish

Its really not importamt. NOt much protein and junk to skimout initially, but it does give a person a chance to get familiar with it, and allow it to get broken in. Why not run it its not gonna hurt anything or hinder a cycle, and can only do more good than harm.
