Protein skimmer

Sorry Im full of questions tonight. I was given all this stuff. I went to turn on the skimmer there is a on off. I cant get the collection chamber to fill up with out water coming out the overflow. Can someone walk me through this?

OK, in the back. That little gray pipe. It says "open" on it. If you turn it, just a little clockwise, it will cause your water level to raise. Your kinda blocking the outlet, thus the water inside raises. Don't let it get to close to the top cause when you go to sleep tonight your collection cup will be full in the morning.

This is kind of a side note, but it appear from your pic that you have your inlet and output backwards...
The sock? Is that on the water goin g INTO the sump?? If so, that's supposed to be on the left of those 3 baffles (dividers). Those baffles keep microbubbles out. Then your return pump should be on the left of the skimmer.
If it's all complicated to change, then don't worry about it, but if it's as easy as swapping the 2, I'd do it.

Absolutely not!!
Foam should collect in there and should be rinsed out about every 3 days or so...

The guy who had this before me set it up. the sock I did myself the water is going right to left if looking at it...

Here's my collection cup needing a desperate cleaning, lol.

I keep my actual water line even with the bottom part of the collection cup. Anything above that is foam. You can see in the pic how it changes.
