Protien Skimmer Problems

I spent a bunch of money on a biggest Prism Pro Red Sea Hang on the tank-back Protien skimmer for my 100 gal tank. I haven't had much luck with it. I have to keep on tinkering with it and the "bubble monster" is frequent - lots of bubbles and the container fills up with water. There is no copper or amonia in the tank. What gives? Does this brand just suck and I should try a different one? Thank you in advance for your thoughts...

Yeah, most people on here will tell you that they are really only effective if you adjust them a bit.
Honestly, I would probably try to get a different skimmer. If you do not have a sump and have to do hang-on the back, do either the AquaC Remora or Excalibur (both of which you should find around $100).
Good luck!

I have a sump. I paid over 250$ for the one I have. It was supposed to be top of the line and the price at other stores are about the same so I didn't get taken on the price. What is one that you suggest for a sump? Do you know what is up with "bubble monster" or what causes it? I know when I was running copper I got constantly it, but now there is no copper in the system. Thanks!

Watch out for the LFS just trying to make alot of money. look to see what they are running. Just get something smaller. I always check out what kind of system they are using.

You got hosed dude. Prisms are a crap skimmer. When you say stores, do you mean stores in your area or stores online. Brick and mortar stores are going to charge exhorbitant prices because they have to to stay in business and they make even more profit when they charge high prices for cheap crap. Online you probably could have found it cheaper. But for that kind of money you could have gotten a good skimmer such as a Euro-reef or a SeaBay.

i have a prizm and it works excellent i let mine break in for three days i turned the flow down till there was no bubbles comeing out the over flow once that is set then let it go for a hour you will notice in the throat the bubbles have started to rise then made minor adjustments on the flow rate until i got dry foam just comeing out ...........if it is wet foam then it still need to turn the flow rate down .......but remember dont turn to much a litttle adjustment can be alot. oyea my local fish store thats all they use on a 100 gallon tanks and smaller. alot of people dont like prizm,s because they just dont no how to adjust them. and need to take a little more time with the prizm.
