The fish are beautiful and If you are willing to do the extra to take care of it then do it. I have found a few sites that sell the food for them but because of the rules I will not post them. I did the same thing as you though(buying without research) and got really lucky and bought one that eats frozen cyclopeze. That is the mainstay of our mandarins diet, but with the hob fuge and the reproduction of our pods ours has stayed healthy for around 7-8 months now. It has actually grown quite a bit. I wish you the best of luck, and I recommend you try the frozen cyclopeze, because it just might work.

Wow did this thread bounce around. First, as met suggested there are 52 weeks in a year, not 48.
second, KUDOS to you for all the care your going through for this fish! Anyone willing to upgrade an entire system for one fish is my kinda person!

And last, try the cyclop eeze, you may not have good luck or you may, but look into setting up a fuge and breeding your own pods. You can use a tupperware bin as a tank, it doesn't need to be extravagant, but I think in the long run, it'll save you money.
Good luck though, those fish are cool!
