Im looking into a puffer tank. Will any species do well in a 10 gallon? Should it just be him & no other fish? If he can have a fish what kind? Live rock ok? Kim
10 gallons is really too small for anything IMO. The perimeters, salinity and temps are very hard to maintain. Personally 15 is the smallest I would ever attempt and even then it is highly limited on what you can have, not much really.
turn it into a freshwater dwarf puffer tank.
They only get 1.5 inches and you could keep 5 of them in there.
If you want a saltwater tank then get at least a 50g one to start.
green spotted puffers are FW when they are young but they reach adulthood that need to be acclimated SLLLOOOWWWWWLLLYYYYY over the course of 2 weeks to salt water by doing a salt drip and then doing water changes.... it's a grueling process but I really like the green spotted puffers personality. He could be kept in a 10 gal easily for atleast a few years. They grow very slowly and you buy them when they are about a year old and are a little over the size of an in-the-shell almond. He would def. have to be kept alone. They will eat everything... I don't know if they're reef safe though.
