PUffers and other fish

What type of puffer do you have? How big is the puffer? If you have a porc, or dogface, they will get to big for a 50 gallon tank. Give some more info on your tank setup. How much LR, what other fish in the tank, filtration, etc. Some tank mates you could look at are triggers, groupers, and wrasses.

A dogface or porc. can only temporarily live in a 50 gallon. They will soon outgrow that, be aware. I have an angel, wrasses, SFE and a Lion with my puffer. I've haven't had any problems. Care must be used when housing puffers with lions though.

Canthigaster ssp. puffers are cool little fish. One would be fine in a 50g, but you would need to pick your tankmates wisely. A larger, more pugnacious clown such as a maroon, tomato, red and black, etc. would be fine. They also do well with hawkfishes, pseudchromids, grammas, etc. Bo

I have a little Porky in my 30 gallon hex (he'll eventually move to a bigger tank). He's in there by himself, no other fish, but I stock it with hermits and snails to help clean up his HORRENDOUS eating habits. He stays away from the snails, but I have to replenish the hermits every two or three weeks. It's good for him though cause he wears down his teeth on their shells which is important. Porky's and puffers shred their food, and if your not ready to devote ALLOT of time cleaning and doing water changes every week to keep your levels down - stay away from them. I LOVE mine and he's worth all the work.:p
