Puffers with Humu Trigger

Hello all,
Maybe PufferLover can answer my ???'s, but any input would be great!
Has anyone ever kept these guys together ? We have a 75 FOLR with two Damsels, a Blue Angel (small)and toady we added a small Humu Picasso and a Blue Spotted Puffer (Sharp Nosed). The LFG said he thought they'd be okay together. Anyone have any conflicting experience? They seem okay so far, except the Blue Spot does this quick, wacky swim around every once in a while. It's strange because they are such complacent and peacful swimmers. I hope he is okay!

Okay, I just read some posts and it seems I have my answer. Guess the LFG was wrong.. The Picasso is smaller than the Puffer, but that won't stay for very long. Now what ??!!

Well the swiming action you describe is what the sharpnose (Canthigaster) variety does when it is upset or agitated (my last one did this everytime I tried to clean the tank). Now it could be because it is so new since at this point I don't think the Trigger would be bothering it. Considering how big the Trigger can get versus the 3 inch average for the Sharpnose I would say you may be pushing the envelope (so to speak) in time. For now tho if they are not nipping at each other and you have rockwork for both of them to get into I would go ahead and try it. I am a strong believer against Dogs, Porks, and Triggers in same tank but this Puff is a different story and it could work for you. If you added them at same time that will work in your favor as neither had claimed the tank as their own yet. Keep me posted as time goes as to how it is working. But if you see signs of trouble then one will have to go.

PufferLover,
Thank you for the fast reply!! :)
Well, so far everything seems peaceful!
So the Spotted does the dart when he's mad. Maybe since the Angel nipped at him when he went by "his" rock, he got mad. What a hard choice it would be to choose between the two if I had to remove one (Picasso and Blue Spot) they are both so beautiful!! I hope these guys live "Happily ever after" and I will post in a week or two, how the kids are playing!!
Oh BTW, we wanted to add two more fish, a wrasse and a Sohal Tang any opinions on these introductions ?
Wow! this Picasso just chewed a little hole in a rock so he could fit all the way in!

C-Lover; Slow down a bit. I would not add any more for a bit till the 2 you just got settle in and the bacteria can handle what you have. Now if it were me I would be inclined if I wanted to add the 2 you mention to try to get the Damsels out and give them to lfs. Damsels especially in 2's can be a bit testy and you have some other nice fish going that don't need the stress of a couple of Damsels who don't like new neighbors.
Also, be aware (if you aren't) that Triggers like to wedge themselves into tight places and lock themselves in for the night with their top fin. I had a clubmember person who took out a barnacle the first night they had a new Trigger and broke it to free what they thought was a stuck fish. Guess where it was the next night after we told the person it was normal for them to do that.

i have a clown with a puffer and they are great together, i think puffers and triggers are ok together but it is all personality.

Pufferlover,
No rush with adding any new guys... we just had a fish plan and those were the remaining fish we wanted to add. It's funny the one convict Damsel is a little meany but he is so small no one cares!! The Angel is the bully for now, he is a little nippy. I will give it a few days for them to all settle in and make nice!
The puffer doesn't seem interested in the flake or frozen brine, any suggestions? He is picking on the rock alot though. :)

Picking on the rocks is a good thing (see post in disease about the stars and stripes with a locked jaw to understand why it is a good thing). Keep working the brine just crush it a bit so it seems more alive the Puff will get the idea. Also, if you have access at lfs to live blackworms my smaller Puffs just love them. They have such small mouths (your type of Puff) you have to give them things they can handle. They will try big things but usually just swim around with it for a while then spit it out. I find most Puffs get spoiled and do not like flakes. Also, another thing mine like is frozen mysis shrimp. Keep at it you will get there in a few days.
