Puffers

Are there any real small puffers who are non-agrresive. I have some shrimp and hermit crabs I would like to keep but interested in some type of small puffer!!
If they get stressed or die can they really wipe out your whole tank though?

Sorry no Puffs can resist a nice looking shrimp for very long. They love to have them over for dinner (their's I mean). Inverts and Puffs just do not mix in 99% of the cases tried.

Yes there are, but as pufferlover said no inverts w/ puffers. The small puffs are the blue dot puffers, which get up to 5 in., the honeycomb puffer 4 in., Saddle pufferfish 5 in., and Valentini puffs 5 in.

Yes the ones Topfish mentions are from the Sharpnose family which is a smaller sleeker type of Puffer. Then you have the bigger Porcupines and Dogfaces which can get to a foot or more even in a tank if well fed and happy.

I have a small pufferfish (1.75 inches) who gets along fine with my red banded coral shrimp who is about 3 inches long.
The pufferfish has shown no interest in it at all.
The same cannot be said of my small mantis shrimp (.75 inches)
which my puffer chases with enthusiasm but has yet to catch!
So I guess as long as there is a significant size difference, it will be OK.
But you may have to experiment a bit.:p
The pufferfish also ignores the small hermit crabs that live in my tank.

I have a Valentini and have had no problems with him eating ANY inverts what so ever....as long as you keep them fed they should be fairly okay.
