I have some pulsing xenia and they wont pulse unless there in the upper half of my tank. They most like the little extra light? Maybe try moving yours higher for a couple days?
Ah, the age old question "what makes a xenia pulse, or not?" No one knows what causes them to do so and no one knows why they don't. In Eric Borneman's book he touches on the same phenomonen. But still no one knows......
I read when u bring them home and put them in some will and some wont, some will do it for awhile then quit and never do it again while others will quit and start again so who knows i have one in my tank just bought a frag and it is for now.
like someone mentioned, no one really knows why xenia pulse....i find personally in my tank that mine will always pulse if they are getting light(they sit on top of my rockword) i have 130W pc lighting....the ones that do not pulse are below the tops layer of xenia, so they are not getting as much light.....but thats in my tank...who knows for others..
its doesnt mean anythings wrong with them if they dont...they're just strange like that
I've heard a few things about them, theres people who say they paulse with PH, some say iodine, some say light and some say current. I have noticed mine will pulse more in less current
How much flow do they have? Mine pulsed alot better in a higher flow so maybe try giving them a little higher flow. Also, i dont think they need a high Ph. My ph has consistently been 7.8 since ive had my xenia and they have gone from 6 stalks to 16 in like 2 months
Don't overdue it, but mine seem to like a good slow flow. They like it so much they are growing everywhere and I have to find people that want free xenia. If you want some for free just let me know.
Be careful dosing iodine...it can be overdone. It's amazing how much there is in a fresh batch of water. I quit dosing it...the test is a pain in the rear...and it's just another reason for regular water changes.
I have 2 Maxi Jet 900's with Hydor Flos on them. They slowly rotate over my Xenia's, and they love it! The wave motion does a lot...they've doubled in size in less than a month.
