just brought home a frag of xenia, once it was ready i put the frag in the water now it looks like its melting. it looks shriveled up, whitesh brown in color, still pulsing but doesnt look good. what should i do? just take the frag out? will melting harm my tank? all other corals and fish are fine.

IMO no, For one xenia is one tough cookie to kill. I you most likely didn't kill it. But might not be a bad thing. What kind of xenia you but in there. That stuff if it lives spreads like wildfire not sure how much you will like it

But good luck and hope it works and they live for you. Oh and don't think they will hurt your corals. You can always just cut them back they get to crazy

whitish brown doesnt sound good sound like it didnt aclimate correctly or ur water is in whack or bad frag something like that but they do spread like wild fire and they r beautiful and they r my favorite coral.

xenia is notorious for being bad shipper. dont worry about it. leave it alone in a medium light and flow area. give it a few days, and it should start to look better. i killed mine all the time by pulling at it and siphoning them. they do grow very very very fast. i, for one regret ever getting one.

Ive killed xenia (or so I thought) several times. The stuff DOESNT die! it may look horrible, but it is usually a sign that your water is off(parameters).
If its a new xenia dont worry, its a finicky little bugger and sometimes it will look terrible but still spread! My xenia havent pumped for like 12 months and just started pumping in the last 2 months again.. I mean what the heck!? but thats how it is.. either feast or famine..
either way, theres nothing you can do. Keep parameters in check and dont BLAST it with flow.
Im pretty sure itll recover, they always do

What is the temp in your tank and what exact type of Xenia is yours? If you have silver branch pumping xenia or the bluish kind, they do not like temp to be past 80.

my temp stays steady at 79 , not to sure of the type. does look like all is going well with it , seem's like it needed time to adjust thats all.
