pulsing xenia

hi. i just bough a pulsing xenia on a small rock and i was wondering if they would grow or spread to other rocks? and if it did how fast would it grow? im new to corals so i dont really too much about them haha.

They typically propogate only to other rocks that are touching them.
They can grow very fast or not at all, it really depends a lot on the amount of light and the amount of dissolved nutrients. Alkalinity and Calcium are also important parameters for Xenia.

They tend to grow towards the light too. So if you start them low in the tank they will grow up.

once xenia is used to the tank, it can spread very very fast. it can double in size in a week.

Mine will bend over to touch neighboring rock and attach. It also drops limbs occasionally which sprout up wherever they land. I just removed some last night to keep it from getting out of hand. They grow up, down, sideways, crossways, toward light, away from light...they just keep going.
