im building a 15 g sump for my 30 tall and i need a quiet pump to run the return.my room where the tank is pretty small so a silent pump is a must, second is quality. internal or external will do since the sump is its early stages .
thanks

I have had good success with Magdrive pumps. I cant remember if they are completely silent, but I can remember how much quieter it was than the previous Eheim pump I had before.

The one thing I recommend to plumbing on any pump for noise level is flexible return line. I have my Mag 7 plumbed with regular PVC and anytime it touches the stand/tank/wall/etc it gets REALLY loud. I ended up taking some pipe wrap around it to take the vibration noise out.
Also what size are you looking for, how much flow? That will help giving a recommendation.

im looking for around 700ish flow. sounds like a mag 7 is the way to go. also im making a refuge on the other side of the sump, now would it be better to tee from the overflow to feed the sump and fuge or tee the return line.
thanks

If it were my tank - I would use a Magdrive 7 with a split return to two spraybars in your application.

I use exactly what borrmer 5 suggested and it works great for my 29.
Also I would tee off the overflow to go to the fuge. That way if you use a skimmer or some carbon media it will allow the fuge to get all the elements in the water.
