Pump opinions

Answer will depnd on a couple factors.
Do you want the pump 'in sump' or external
Do you have a large sump/refugium?
Is the sump / refugium in a cabinet just under the tank or down in a basement
where the pump will have to work against a lot of 'head' pressure.
I have never had problems with Mag pumps in the sump
I use Sequence pumps if going external. Iwaki is also a good external pump.
