Pump Reccomendation

depends on how much flow you are lookin for. Remember to take into consideration how high the pump will have to push the water. I look for a total water turnover per hour of about 10x the tank capacity. So, look at how many other powerheads you have in the tank, and consider how fast you want the water to flow through your sump/fuge. Then you can decide on how big you want your pump.

Ditto previous remarks. I'm going to be using a Mag9.5 for my 75g tank, and use a ball valve to dial back the flow just a bit. A mag7 will give you about 420gph at 5'. A Mag9.5 will give you about 750gph.

Just setting up a 55 reef with 29 refug and Iwaki MD-70 pump. Which is quite large for this setup - i think. will cutting it back introduce more heat, or what? I think the minimum flow on their website was quite low.
Will have the refuge about 10' below the water level in the 55
