The selection of the return pump is totally dependant on the overflow - first and foremost.
You must know what the overflow is rated for in gph.
Then you can start thinking about pumps.
The distance from where the pump is sitting in the sump TO the point where the water shoots back into the tank is also very helpful to know.
What you want to accomplish - a lot of circulation or just a minimum amount. In other words - turnover.
Size of the tank vs size of the sump is also good to know.
