Pumps keep getting cloged and noisy, why?

I have a 15g Tall tank, with a 5.5g Fug.
For movement i have:
Koria #1 (400g/h)
Maxi 600 (200g/h)
Return from Fug (50g/h)
both seem to get cloged often and get noisy. It's often really difficult to clean them and such. Both are using the standard plastic grills, no prefilter.
Is this normal? (This happens about every other week)

They will get clogged, but yours seems to be a little excessive. What is it clogged with? Pieces of algea,. I have never heard of a Hydro korlia clogging. That is a lot of flow for a 15g. Do you keep SPS or something? That is 43X turnover. Don't get me wrong flow is good, but I wonder if it is stirring up yoru substrate and causing it to clogg faster.
