What is the best pump I can use with a 250-270 sal set up? I will need lots of water movement but it must be very quiet. am I asking for too much?

I use a Rainbow "Quiet-One" and can attest that it is truely very quiet... you can only tell it is running if you touch it and feel the heat or put your face a few inches away from it! The only thing I would question is if it is really salt water safe. I've been running mine for about 6 months and recently when I had to rework my plumbing I looked at the rotor/impeller-like assembly and it looked like it might be rusting slightly. If I find further evidence of same I plan to contact the manufacturer for advice/resolution, otherwise I am very satisfied with output as stated in the post before this one. Joe.

What are you going to use the pump for, return, or skimmer? For a tank that size if you are going to use it for the return you might need something bigger. The quit one is a very good pump never hear mine, I have had it for over a year.

I will need one for the return and I guess one for the skimmer. I keep reading different articles about the need for a skimmer if there is enough live rock soooooooo...... for now I will plan on 2 pumps.

For large tanks I would use either Dolphin or Iwaki. Personally I use a Dolphin 4500 pump and it flows a TON of water. If you want little noise then you would need to use the low RPM dolphin pumps which run at 1750 rpm. They are fine for anything under roughly 12-15 ft of head pressure. So if you are putting the pump under the tank you are fine with the low rpm units. Look at the 3000 and AM3600 units.
