I would go with a Mac as well Howard, for ease of use and durability and NO VIRUSES EVER! But you get what you pay for and are quite a bit more.. BUT WORTH EVERY PENNY!

well, there is more than just the hard drive..
They both have webcams.
The difference is little things; MPEG, Audio, etc..
I would absolutely LOVE a Mac, just not enough money..

Never been a Mac fan because of the limited availabilty of software (that and I just couldn't get used to that one-button mouse thing). But I haven't looked at them the last few years. I know Mac's are the defacto systems for graphics, but how do they match up playing video games? Aslo, don't they have this new 'Virtual PC' software that allows you to run XP or Vista in the background if you want?

I've owned a couple HP/Compaq laptops. NEVER AGAIN.
We have a Dell now that seems to be nice.
Just remember HP's tagline...
You can buy better, but you can't pay more than HP!

Yes, Yes, and Yes.
Macs can run any PC software. In fact, I had a 24" iMac and I loaded XP 64 bit on it... it ran Splinter Cell: Double Agent way faster and clearer than my custom-built overclocked PC running XP 32 bit.
Fo you tech nerds, my PC had a 2x256mb Nvidia pci express in SLI mode, and the graphics still clipped whenever I would turn fast. Even though the iMac was running XP 64-bit, it only had a single nvidia 128mb pci express card.
It is proven by countless tech companies and magazines that when Mac's and PC's with comparable horsepower are tested using XP, the Mac blows the PC out of the water.
The bad thing about PC's is that OSX can't be run on the PC. But the mac has become (as of 2 years ago with the addition of Boot Camp) universally compatible.
Also, if you want OSX and XP to run side-by-side, you can do so using either Parallels or Fusion... both of which share the resouces between XP and OSX. It's truly amazing.
Mac's will also run Vista, even though Vista is a terrible operating system.
ALL mac's have a "right-click"... even the old G4 Powerbooks had it... that was before they started shipping mac's with intel chips.

Thanks for the info. Parallels was the 'virtual' software I was thiniking about. I was at a CompUSA (before they folded), and saw a demo of Parallels on the heavy duty Desktop Mac (can't remember the model number). I was impressed with it, but the price was about 20% more than what I could spend building a custom PC. I built my gaming PC, and overall I'm happy with the performance. But I'll agree that Vista sucks. I even went with the 64-bit version, and found several of my 32-bit programs won't run on it. I'm looking for a laptop for my daughter. Think I'll go by the Apple Store and take another look at it. Thanks again.
