Has anyone ever used this brand? THe price is so much cheaper than carib sea's aragonite and I think the grain size is about the same as the oolitic (0.18 and 1.2mm) Im worried though because of the cheaper price.

I can't comment on either of those products as I have never used them. But don't let price be your guide, do you have any idea how badly they are raping you already on the price? Aragonite is just some damn sand, it's not gold. I can get Aragonite sand from a local aggregate dealer here in Jacksonville for $20 a TON. That is 2000 LBS of sand for $20. That is 1 penny a LB. So a 40 LB bag would be $0.40. And they charge what, like $30? So you see, don't let price be any sort of guide, they are a HUGE rip off any way you look at it.

Problem is, it is just a HUGE pile of sand. I have to go bag the stuff myself, with like garbage bags or anything I can think of. So I'm not sure if shipping would be an option, as I don't even have anything to pack the sand itself in.

use 5 gallon buckets with lids a tight seal and you could make a ton of money in the classified section here. Any container that sealed and you could use duct tape to reenforce it. just add that into your cost then the time it takes you to do it and shipping and transportation to the post office and for you to go there and you are at about 20.00 for 40 lbs. good luck on the business adventure.

Have you ever filled a 5 gallon bucket with sand? I just wonder what the weight would be and how much it would cost to ship that.

i would assume it probably is somewhat close to the same as a bucket of instant ocean salt in weight. i would still be very interseted in trying to get some of this from you. if its easy enough i work at a lfs and they may be interested in buying some from you as well!!!! please keep in touch. robby

Hmm... what about those Instant Ocean 200g salt mix buckets. They ship well... How much could you fit in there? Last time I purchased one of those online, shipping wasn't a big issue.
Look at it this way, Everyone keeps their salt mix buckets. They're useful! If you wanted to sell sand, you could have people send you their empty buckets, you fill with sand, and send it back to 'em...
If they need more, they re-send you their empty bucket. I mean, c'mon, at that price, they could afford to!
Whatcha think of that!!?

It would be cheaper on them in the long run only because then you don't have to include the price of the bucket in the over all price. Plus get some kids to gether to go play in the sand and get them to fill the buckets for you. Just dont get in over your head taking to many orders. A lfs would be better off paying you to drive a truck load to them at the price you said and putting it in containers themselves. Depending on distance from you. Know someone who had a buddy in australia send him a bucket of ls from the ocean there. so it is possible.

I'm hoping that some of you are starting to see the reason that a bag of aragonite costs what it costs at the lfs or purchased online.
A 2000 lb pile of aragonite sand sitting in someone's driveway does little for me, unless it's piled up in my driveway.
Just estimating what 200 lbs would cost to ship from Florida to Ohio, assuming we shipped it in 50 lbs bags or buckets - total of 4 packages @ 50lbs each = $17.69 per package going UPS.
Granted there are cheaper freight methods - but my point is it's not the cost of the sand that is so high, it moving this stuff all around the country, and still being able to make a profit.
If you don't make a profit - then you're just a great person moving sand around for us fellow hobbyists.
People are nice - people like to help others - but not many of us can afford to be shipping sand around to each other unless someone covers the cost of shipping it. Let alone ordering it, receiving it, cleaning it, bagging it, handling it, packaging it, selling it, collecting the money and shipping the final product.
It's not the cost of the sand - it's the cost of moving the sand that is the killer, and still making it worth someone's time and trouble to do so on a personal or commercial level.
I'll take 200 lbs of it at a penny a pound if someone's willing to sell it to me and deliver it to me at that price.

Broomer,
The point I originally made was that it is all the same and don't let price be your guide. If one is much cheaper, buy it. That being said, the people at Purearagonite.com sell the stuff in 40LB bags for $12 a bag, and that DOES NOT include shipping. you must still pay to have it shipped. If I can get the sand for 40 cents for a 40 LB bag, and I'm sure that they are even paying less since they are buying in huge bulk, there is no justification for charging $12 a bag. $4 a bag is highway robbery with them getting a 1000% profit (if they pay what I am paying, which like I said, they are prob paying even less). So I still stand behind the fact that it has nothing to do with shipping, it has to do with them stamping "Aquarium" on the bag and sticking it to you.

I agree that anyone selling aragonite is making a nice mint, but I also know a little about business and you don't go into business to not make money. At least I don't.
Sal T Nutz, I tried to contact you to go in with you to buy some aragonite, but I guess you missed my "page" and you don't accept email from this board.
Next best step in my case? I just ordered 200 pounds from pure aragonite. I bought 4 bags and I got one free. That was $47 dollars for the sand and $56 shipping to my front door. It beats the hell out of what anyone local wanted for carib-sea and I could not find any aragonite local.
I'm happy that I am getting the sand I want and it will be at my door in a few days in 5 easy to manage packages. No offense to anyone, but if you are going to be in this hobby, there are times when you just have to bend over and just pray for lube.

LOL Tangman!
Sorry I didn't receive your "page". I don't know how you get those? I don't receive email because I hate spam, sorry. Does anyone know how to get the "page"? Sounds like you wanted sand soonee rthan me anyway, I won't be buying it for another week or 2, but I would have gladly told you where the place was over off 9A so you could have got it yourself. Sorry.

No problem Sal T Nutz. I am more comfortable going with the pure agagonite. A little lighter in the wallet, but comfortable none the less.
As far as the page, I just simply created a post called "paging sal t nutz" in the reef section. With all the posts going on, it probably got pushed way down the list very fast.
If you ever want to get together and compare knowledge (either tanks or professionally, I'm also a computer professional) as we live a stone's throw away from one another, drop me a line through my email link on my web page. The link is in my signature. You can't have enough friends in this hobby or the business we are in.

TangMan please let me know how the sand looks. Shipping would be a little more expensive for me since Im in CA but it would be worth the money if the quality of the sand is good.

Will do Tigershark. It will probably be here tomorrow or Wednesday, but it will probably be over the weekend before I actually open it.
The guy I talked to there told me that they do the four bags and one free because it is actually cheaper to ship 5 bags than 3 bags. Something about the size of the order. I know it was $8 dollars cheaper to ship 5 instead of 3 to my address in Florida.
If anyone is interested, I'll take some photos of the packaging and sand when I open the bags. If you are interested, drop me an email through the link to my website and I'll email them to you after I take them as I don't want to clutter up the board with pictures of sand.
Tangman :)
