Purple Algae

This purple looking stuff is taking over my tank, glass, sand.... everything. It looks like algae.
What is it? How do I get rid of it?

If it is hard then it is coraline algae. You want that kind of algae. You can use a razor blade, flush against the glass, to scrape it off of the front and side glass. Let it grow on the back.

Thanks for the info! It just gets all over my live sand and makes it look dirty.

Can you send a pic? Coraline algea isn't dirty looking, usually. It sounds like you may have cyno bacteria. Just a guess without a pic.

i agree, it does sound like cyano
is your tank in the cycling process or just finished?
