My established 100 gal tank has recently had an abundance of purple algae on the rocks and on the pebbles on the bottom. I've had this tank for over a year and it's been established for 6 years but this is the first I've seen this. Any ideas?
its coraline algae. I have had my 29g up for 4 months and worked very hard to get that purple algae. The more stable your KH and Calcium levels the better it will grow. Also there is some type of green stuff I put in my tank to feed the mushrooms that helps it grow too.
Thanks for the input. The lights were changed recently. The algae in the pebbles can be suctioned out but comes back quickly. Maybe I need a new tang to help with this. I just wondered if this was normal as I had not seen it before.
