Purple chromis?

I just bought a new fish from my LFS... he called it a 'Purple Chromis'... it is a very dark pink in color... anyone know if there is such a fish? He is hiding under a rock and won't eat... just want to know more about him.

Any possibility of a pic? I have only heard of Blue and Blue/Green (Green) Chromis.

If I can get him out of that hole in my LR... maybe!!
He looks exactly like my deep blue chromis... he has a deep 'scissor' tail just like the blues!
Beautiful color... almost as 'purple' as the message icon I have attached above!!
I will try to catch him with the digital camera... thank you for helping.

Okay, I don't know how to attach an image...
I have searched Google... and can't find anything that looks like this fish... his tail is deeply 'scissored'... he is deep pink/magenta... like a strawberry pseudochromis... and his body is elongated like one. My blue chromis have more of a rounded body than this purple one has...
Just wondering what he will eat, because he is hiding in the rock and won't come out when I feed the others (they eat like piranha at feeding time)

i have one in a FO tank at college, little bitty guy but hes a mean SOB. Fights w/ fish 3 or 4 times his size. Is it this guy??
There are a few chromis' that are purple or pink
The top one is sometimes called a Purple chromis or strawberry chromis. Pretty low maintenance, reef safe but could eat small shrimp (have to be pretty small) semi aggressive.
The bottom one is a Fridmani Chromis (spelling?), more peaceful.
Both eat variety of frozen foods- brine, etc.
Is it one of these, the strawberry is about half the price of the Fridmani chromis.

Thank you for your reply... and the pic looks a LOT like my 'purple chromis', only mine has a very deep 'scissor' tail... or 'split tail'
I thought it could be a strawberry, if it weren't for this fact.
I will research the other names you have given me... and see if I can figure this out!
I can't believe it is so difficult to identify... I must be spelling something wrong!:(

OK...so we are talking about a PseudoChromis then. Big difference. That's why I never heard of a purple Chromis. They aren't actually a Chromis.

I would say, yes, it was a strawberry pseudo... if it weren't for the deep scissored tail that it has...
The LFS called it a 'Deep split-tail purple chromis'... but since nobody on the boards has ever heard of such (not to mention I have spent 2 days searching the internet), I am starting to think he is wrong.
The crazy fish is just hiding in the LR... won't come out to eat... I am beginning to think he is sick. I hoped to figure out exactly what type of fish he is, so that I could research what he might like to eat.
So far, he isn't aggressive toward the other tankmates... he won't come out to socialize at all!

Sad day guys... he died sometime during the night...
Thanks for trying to help me identify him... he was like mixed: part Strawberry Pseudo/part chromis...

Hey Karla,
What lfs do you go to? Been to the Reef House Yet? It's a great place.:)

Bdubbya: I bought this one from Tropical Fish Cove in Independence... I also shop Pet World in Gladstone and Brothers Pets in Blue Ridge...
I have never been to the Reef House, where is it??

I live in Gladstone so I visit Pet World frequently. The Reef House is in westport. It is on the corner of westport road and I think it's main st. The way I get there is, I take Broadway to westport rd, make a left on Westport. Take that until it ends (there will be an osco drug on your right) and the Reef House should be right in front of you. It is hard to miss so keep your eyes open. HTH.
ps Sorry to hear about your fish, was he showing any signs of stress? Like breathing heavily?

Thanks Bdubbya... I will check it out... I am so addicted to this hobby! I love just going to look at new stuff. I love the guy that owns Pet World... he seems very honest and knowledgable...
Maybe this is the store I have heard so much about around here. I thought it was 'Paradise Aquatics' in Overland Park... but that shop is SO small, you can barely move around in there. They have some awesome tanks though... and lots of unusual fish. Wish they would move to a bigger location!
Yes, my fish was breathing heavy that last day before he died... I couldn't catch him (without taking everything out of the tank) to put him back into the QT... I don't think I could have saved him. I purchased him the day the LFS got a shipment of new fish... and I don't think he had ever even taken this fish out of the bag he got him in... which was my mistake I guess (or his??)... Oh well, a sad and expen$ive mistake that isn't my first!
