purple lobster molting question

I just realized my purple lobster has not molted in about 3 months. I'm going to test my levels shortly, but provided everything is in line, is this normal?

This is actually a new one I have had for about 2 1/2-3 months. My old one molted about every 2 months.

How big is the one you have presently?
They generally molt only when they have outgrown their old exoskeleton. Some just grow faster than others. Lots of factors play into this, availability of food is the biggest. The more they eat the bigger and faster they grow.
I wouldn't be concerned. As long as you can keep an eye on him. I have heard that water quality effects the molting process as well but I can't find the information to back that up. I'll "google" it later and see if i come up with anything useful.

Thanks for your help, he is about 2 inches long. Since he never comes out, I'm not sure how much food he gets. If I could figure out where his cave is I would put some food near it.

How often do you see him?
You could always sit up at night with a flashlight outfitted with a red lense and watch for him.
Besides if you have never done this it is AMAZING how much stuff you see in an older tank that comes lurking out in the dark!

i have a freshwater lobster. he eats like a pig and if the red tail shark or the gold gourami come near his boat he lunges and tries to get em. he got the gourami once and took a piece of his fin off! it grew back. he only molted once and i had him for like 5 months. he did it like a month and a half ago...

You know it just occured to me, we are assuming he hasn't molted. But if he stays hidden in enough rock he could have and you just weren't aware of it.

Remember that molted exoskeleton is nutrious and they or others will eat it if left in the tank.
