Purple Pseudochromis Opinion?

I love dottyback colors but have stayed away from them because of the aggressiveness issue. The LFS guy which has become a good friend and is honest as far as I know say their rep is worse than they deserve. He said that as long as they have ample hiding places that they are usually passive. My current stock in my 120 is a yellow and hippo tang, 6-line wrasse, 2 percs, a bi-color blenny and 1 domino damsel (which I am still trying to remove). What do you think about me getting a purple dottyback with the current stock?

it seems like a good addition to me. the only question i have is about the six-line, since i haven't kept one before. in one of the accounts i take care of, there is a similar stock list. 90 gal with:
half-moon angel
2 percs
lawnmower blenny
some large damsel
purple pseudochromis

Try it. As long as there's lots of hiding spaces.....since he's the last one in.....
Let us know.

I have 1 in with a simular combination of fish. He doesn't seem to bother anybody. If anything, he is on the lower end of the tank hierarchy.

I beleive that type of fish does better in a larger tank. they have room to move around and more space for thier territory. I had one in a 55 gal, and all my other fish lived in 1/3 of the tank. he took over 2/3 for his territory.

I too am planning on a purple pseudochromis for my 180g but Id like to keep shrimp too. SWF says to monitor. Has anyone seen aggressive behavior towards shrimp?

One of my favorite reef tank fish. Mine was passive, yet always in view. Ate anything I put in. Long lived in my experience.

I had a purple psuedochromis for about 5 years and he got along fine with my percula clown, tomato clown, and four-strip damsel. I currenty have a bicolor, and he's doing fine with the same group of fish. They're definitely aggresive with similar-type fish, but don't really pick fights with tankmates it views as non-competitors. IMO they're a great fish with lots of personality. I wouldn't worry about adding one to your tank.

I wouldn't worry about adding one to your tank, I don't think it will be a problem if it's the last one in.

I had one in a 55 with a 6-line wrasse. They would chase each other but no major battles.
Well until we upgraded to the larger tank. The flame angel we got took a distinct dislike to it. We returned the flame angel but by then the 6-line picked up the habit and harrased the dottyback so badly that it killed it

It was one of my favorite fish and I would like to get one again but I also like my 6-line and am scared that if I put another purple dottyback in it would do the same thing
