I have just recently purchased a purple tang brought it home and put in my QT. He was looking good until the next morning when I looked at him and he had little white spots all over him. What I did was treated the QT tank with coppersafe and melafix he has been in the QT tank for about two weeks with no signs of ich for the last four to five days. When will it be safe to add him to my display tank?

no not yet read beths post on treatment .no signs of ich on thefish doesnt mean it has died off.the life cycle of ich only shows on the fish 5-7 days out of the 3-4 week lifecycle.once the ich falls off the fish to reproduce in the sand that is when it can be stopped.you need to keep up treatment for 3-4 weeks after you dont see any ich on the fish.

The time tables I use take it for what it’s worth
Parasitic stage 3 to 7 days
Trophont swimming 18hrs
Encystment (reproductive) 3 to 28 days
Free swimming (infective stage) 24 to 48 hrs
You can do the math and come up with a time table you feel comfortable with.
It is a little strange that your fish showed the infestation your state. For this to happen you had to have transferred the fish with water from you LFS with a large amount of the ick parasite in its infective state
