Fish are not puppies, you don't rescue them. If a fish is sick, not eating, or over stressed...do not purchase that fish. The fish I hope is in a quarantine tank, just in case it isn't eating because it's sick.
I would provide a dim lit tank, supply a good hiding spot so it feels safe, and a Nori sheet to nibble on. Try to not get up too close to the tank and freak it out...The goal is to let it's world settle down and be peaceful.
A new fish goes through so much. It is caught, then put in a plastic bag, and shipped in the dark box to a strange place and then put in a cramped space. Then people come in and tap the tank, or get up close for a better look. It must seem to them like people are giant monsters staring at them...then a fish net crabs them up again, and they are again put in a little plastic bag and the frightening move happens all over again..I wouldn't want to eat either.
I just noticed the post number...Welcome to the site, I hope your new critter makes it...fingers crossed for you.
