I only used the product once (one bottle) but it did seem to work pretty well in speeding the growth of coraline on my rock. after it really started growing I did not see the need to use it again.
good luck

If you've already got some coraline in your tank and your calcium levels are good then you really shouldnt need to add anything to your tank. Purple up will not do anything if you dont have at least a little coraline in your tank already...

Waste of money IMO. Just seed the tank with a nice rock and let mother nature take it from there.
Cheers.

didnt do much for my tank, everyone seems to rave about the stuff but i didnt see any major reason to keep dosing it?
I like reef complete, seems to do a good job keeping up with my ca needs.

I started using it a couple of weeks ago. I started this tank with tap water (been using ro/di for about a month now) and my coraline sarted dyeing on my rocks. My calcium was not low so i figured it was missing one or two small things. Within that couple of weeks the die off is turning back purple and it has spread really well to a few other rocks that didn't have it there before. It really shocked me how fast it helped. I did have a couple of rocks that had a lot of coraline though. It does state onthe bottle that it will not seed the tank, all it does is make sure all of the right nutrients are in the water.

Worthless IMO.....why dumped unneeded chemicals into your system to upset the balance.....Your trying to rush coraline algae, and it will come with time....Get your levels balanced and learn to keep them balanced and SHAAAZAM!!!!!!! the coraline takes over and it's out of control.....that stuff without monitoring your water parameters could and will knock your levels out of whack.....

This thread has been very helpful to me. I started a thread the other day about helping the spread of coarline. Everyone just told me to scrape the rocks with alge and wait. I think i am goingto go out and get some tonight and try it out, HA mother nature is too slow! Of those that have used it with success how much live rock did you start out with and how much regular rock were you trying to seed? I will let everyone know how it works for me! :hilarious

Well this is kind of an old thread but i thought i needed to post my results. Purple Up has worked great for me so far! I have been using it for like ten days and my Live rock looks so good i can't even put it into words. The coraline alge is so much brighter and more vibrant i am stunned. I did remove all my carbon but i am still using the skimmer. The base rock show no signs of growth but it has only been like 10 days since i started using the procuct. I will try to remember to post something when my base rock shows signs of growth.

if your calcium levels are right and you add that stuff your going to push your calcium too high and mess up your alkalinity, if your calcium levels are low then fix them there is no need to waste money your paying for the word purple on the bottle. any calcium supplement can raise your calcium. (water changes with a good salt mix can fix low calcium too)

for those that are saying it worked great, what makes you think it has anything to do with the product you are adding?
