If you use it, get a test kit for calcium.
I use and it love it. However, overdosing is possible if you don't test.

My calcium is always around 550 on my 20 gl reef because i cant keep it down when i use it. Fair results so far though. Only dose every other day, IMO.

I tried kent reef ca and it made my tank cloudy, wont be using that again...It's cloudy for a day then went away.
Does purple up cloud the tank?
Maybe i will try that?

Purple Up will cloud the tank for about 1/2 an hour to an hour max.

It took about 36 hours for my tank to clear up after i used kent reef ca, so maybe i will try purple up next?
I'm just trying to give my LR a kick start, that coraline sure looks purty!

I love this stuff, you have to have some corline alge in your tank for it to really work, even says this on the bottle, or something like "doesn't contain coraline algae" I pulverized a small lr chunk that was totally encrusted in purple and green coraline and then add this pulverized mixture to my tank, I was told this will seed the tank and jump start the corline, only time will tell.

it seems to work with fair results.....just make sure to have a cal. test kit. It will make the calcium skyrocket...use it sparingly

Yes, you need correline already in the tank to make it work.
Rather than pulverizing a piece of lace rock, I just scraped the correline that was on powerheads and other plastic pieces. The flow of water will make it settle in other places in your tank. Purple Up accelerates the process due to the calcium added to the tank.
I love the stuff, but like I said before have a test kit handy and use it.
I documented everything each time I tested so I could see visually the patterns that were developing in my water parameters.
After seeing the pattern, I was able to get myself on a schedule without any problems.

if you just let your tank mature, and do regular water changes, it will only be a matter of time before you start seeing coraline growth. if there isnt any in your tank, you could ask a lfs to scrape some off ther tank wall and then add that to youre tank. just make sure its water from a reef tank, and not a fish only tank that can have copper and what not in it.

I think it is a waste of money. All is did for me was throw my calcium, ph, and alk way out of whack. However, in the tank I did NOT use purple up in I had an explosion of coralline.
