ok, i've used purple up now for 3 years none stop, as you see I'm a serious reefer,lol, and because i focused more on SPS in the last 4 years, I've learned to just keep thing's simple as because i have too many tanks to have reactors and such, so i use only B-ionic 1 and 2 part, and purple up, hand dose daily, Purple up has mag,cal, stromtium,and carbonate.
So I test daily, each reef tank with salifert test kits, i have them all but only use cal,alk,and mag, weekly i check all other levels, i do water changes weekly 15% , so because i have such a large level of SPS collection, i go through tons of b-ionic,esv mag,and purple up, YES I KNOW THATS COSTLY, BUT I LIKE THE PRODUCTS, AND SO DO MY CORALS.
Now i got to say i am a purple up freak, i get them by the gallons, its better than paying like 20.00 a bottle, but i love coraline algae in my reef tanks,glass,rocks,etc.i have done my own experiments and got to say that purple up does accelerate and spreads faster,thicker, out of control, some people like it some don't.
yes it raises cal levels but i balance it all out, and i still half to add mag, my corals suck it up fast.

within 30 to 40 minutes, its clear, some of my smaller reefs takes sometimes 1 to 2 hours as the calcium levels deplete(sucked up) slower.

I only kinda like it around the edges of glass on front , but all over the rest. With having lots of LR , there be more surface areas for good bacteria to live as the undersides don't get all cover by coraline algea.

You really need to test your cal,mag,alk,daily, just till you get used to where your levels fluctuate daily,i test in the morning's, try to test at the same time if you can, also test in the evenings to see how much fluctuate's, but the reason why it whitens and browns out could be because its not at a steady calcium level, browning is also nuisance algae, whats your phosphates at and other levels at (nitates,etc)??????

well im guessing it is algea cuz i jus scrapt it off with a tooth brush and it floted in in water like food but it doesnt look like algea i means its not slimey it looks like its part of the rock like its painted but my snails eat it so im jus leavin it there for food... i also use this kent liquids... and i cant test my cal mag or alk because they dont sell non of that here

lol, this is what happens after 3 month from a empty clean tank, i add some coraline algae from scraping from the glass off another tank, used purple up, and this is what it looks like under power compacts, it grows much faster,better, under pc's, i have MH, and its grows a little thicker but slower.

well i got to say thats the KEY of having a successful reef tank, its a must that you check your pars because your whole environment counts on it, for living healthy, once you do get the tests kits, and start testing, and getting them in check , then you'll understand more of what your corals need, and want to survive, its nothing to it, just do it, its really, really, really important to know where your pars are

yea i have the tester fo ph nitritr nitrates amonia and alinity and everything is on check its been like that for about 4-5 months already i have two clowns anemone fire fish and coral bueaty and clean up crew and everything is fine everyone eats well and very active my anemone has grown alot since i got it and i add kent liquids i just really want coraline

the atinics are more blue than the origanal 50/50 atinic vho bulbs, gives a better atinic glow.
thats a 3 month old tank? thats insane. you must have been able to add a lot from your old tanks.
its amazing how fast it takes off by just adding flakes and purple up, I have a few other smaller tanks, added coraline algae flakes , but didn't get the same results by not adding purple up, still a couple years later and it didn't get like the 42 gallon bowfront i posted, the 42 gallon hex that i'm posting is 2 years running with a orbit 250 watt hqi and has no coraline growth

get some purple up, alk , cal, ang mag tests kits, i like selifert, try to order it, get it mailed to you, and start knowing where your cal,alk,and mag is, don't worry about the other pars as long as your take is cycled etc, and just at least test the other pars weekly to biweekly no later.

i have 2 lfs they just dont sell that stuff here its a problem just to bring fish ova here i have to wait every month. but i will order its and send it to miami im buying some t-5 sent to miami and then beeing sent over here to d.r. so ill see what i can do im also buyin the purple up bottle maybe 2
