I myself do not use Purple UP. However, my understanding is it is a calcium supplement. In which case, the frequency of use should really depend on calcium level testing. Calcium levels should be somewhere between 400 and 500. I myself only add supplements I can test for. Otherwise you really dont know how much you are putting in.

purple up speed up ur coraline algae growth a bit. after a tanks been up for 4-5 months, coraline algae should take off anyway. dose it 1x per week for for 3-4 weeks. after that i'd stop it. about 1 capful evry 50 gallon.
what happens if you have too much calcuim. i started using purple up and its directions says use once a day. so i have been doing two cap fulls a day for the last week. i have a 120g tank

I think they call it calcium precipitation.
did someone say poison-up? Any concoction that immediately changes water quality can not be good for a marine aquarium. If calcium is lacking it may be better to correct this slowly otherwise you may upset other water parameters. keep researching...
adding purple-up isnt going to sudddenly make coralline appear. isnt it just calcium chloride? dont add it unless you can test for it either. most people who use it dont have anything that consumes calcium

clams will suck up calcium
when someone has a clam they usually know that the clam will consume alk and calcium and should know how it all works, but for hobbyists that start out usually have softies and want coralline at the same time on their rocks
