I have had one for about 6 months ans I also have several Dusters. I have not noticed any problems.
They do eat Coralline sometimes leaving white trails where they have been and sometimes become wedged in place in the LR though.
Are you talking about the purple pincushion urchin? I've had one of those for a couple of years and he has never eaten any feather dusters or corals. He does eat my nice coralline though.

Did he grab them on purpose or did they just stick to his spines when he went past?

Mine gets hermits stuck on him alot.
it climbed up on it when it was acclimating. Now they are in the tank and the peppermint shrimp won't leave them alone! I am about to remove the shrimp!!
Strange, are you sure they are Peps?? My Peppermints hardly ever come out of the rocks during the day. The only time I even know they are still in there is when I see one at night with a light.
But anyway don't worry too much they most likely wil get along better with time passing......
What are fancy? So far I love the dusters! I can't have much that requires strong light so these are perfect! I would love to get more.
When you say attach? With what

The colored ones, like lime green, maroon with gold edging etc. Here is a very old shot of a few of mine with a normal one too, before being moved to escape my Diamonds continual burials.

He's never killed my hermits, he just cruises around with the shell stuck on him until I pull it off.
