i was wondering if anyones tried to put the bio rings in a cascade type canaster filter (mine is a 1500) and will it hurt to put them right in instead of in a filter bag since there are 3 parts to it maybe i can use the center one for them and just place them in so they have plenty of room to move around?
or maybe some bio balls?

Either will work. Just be sure to keep them clean on a regular basis (take them out and wash a small portion of them in the dirty water from a water change - never all at once).
