pvc cement

putting in a new tank. using Oatey PVC Purple Primer and PVC Cement.
After completion, I was told by LFS not to use the PVC. The primer and cement is toxic to Fish.
Is that true?

YES it is toxic...hahaha befor its dry, but after its set, it isnt. use it

Let it sit for about an hour before you run tank water threw it... Thats all...
Once dry, not harmful at all

People use PVC (and associated joining products) all the time. The comment from your LFS is ludicrous I would take that as a learning experience and be suspicious of their future advice on fish, etc too!

Yeah, 99.9% of the time; if its approved for human drinking water, its fine for fish.
