It is not toxic and you don't have to wait 48 hrs. Once it dries rinse it with fresh water till you can't smell it and you are good to go.

Yes, it is very toxic........if you eat it!
For using it to seal PVC fittings, it is fine. I simply give the pipes a good rinse and then use them. Within an hour or so it is safe.

NOT TOXIC??? Put it on something and see if it lives... It is NON TOXIC if you use it correctly.... just like DDT... drink some of that... will kill you.. but they still used it on our plants

It got on me and im still here....
All PVC Cement does is melt the two fittings together. As stated above, wait about an hour till it dries, rinse and use!!
good luck

Once it dries it is safe. What do you think they glue the plumbing in your house with? Is it safe to ingest? Hell no! but I don't think that is what he was asking.

It's toxic, but like everyone else said, it's safe once it dries. Once it dries, most of the toxic stuff evaporates and what's left is basically plastic.
The glue sold in the US for use on pipes has to pass FDA (or some other government acronym) approval, so I'd think it's pretty safe for your fish.

Always try to find CPVC glue, that is safe for consumable water lines. regular pvc glue may have a toxic residue but it will wash off with a good rinsing

My point was that I thought he was asking if it would be toxic to use for his plumbing. I meant no offense to you, and apologize if it came off that way.
