This is my first pygmy angel and im wondering if they normally breathe faster than larger fish. He has only been in the tank for about an hour and im probably being paranoid because hes the first fish in this new tank so I want him to live but hes breathing about twice as fast as what im used to seeing. I would say he breathes 2-3 a second.

A better indicator is how far he opens his gills, and if he seems to be tipping back.

How long was he acclimated and how? I am thinking you know how to do this, but will check to see so others can learn too. Barry

i don't see why you'd take you chances with a pygmy, you probly shoulda added a damsel just to see if your tank is good to go, but your pygmy will probly calm down by tomarow

if everything tests out alright, why add a troublesome fish?

I agree. Get what you want, you can only put so many fish in a tank, why get one you have to rip your tank apart to get out later? :notsure:

becuase you never REALLY know if your tank is ok. for all you know, you have a parasite in your tank, or you got a hitchiking mantis, or gorilla. I just think i'd rather lose a 3 dollar fish, than a 20, and even if the tank was ok, IMO it would be worth it to have to catch the fish and give it back to my lfs, and then get the fish i really wanted, just to give me some reasurrance that the tank is A ok, but whatever maybe thats just me :notsure:

how are your water parameters? sounds a lot like stress, and not all pygmy angels are hard to take care of. Try keeping the lights down or off for the next 24 hours, I've raised them for the past 24 years and that is what I have always done, hth
