Pymgy angel in a 14gal?

Hey guys I've got a fairly established 14 gallon biocube, been going smoothly now for about 2 months. Right now I've got 2 false percs, a banggai cardinal, a yellow watchman and a skunk cleaner in there, along with about 17-18 lbs live rock, a xenia coral, and a colony of zoas. I'm feeling that it might be a little crowded if I added another fish, but I'm really digging the pymgy angel (cen. argi). good idea, or no?
I've heard they can be a bit "strange" (I can't think of a better word) toward corals. As far as the future goes, I'm interested in acquiring a leather coral as well as a hammer coral and a bubble tip. Any corals in particular that pygmies like to pick on?

This is what I just read up on it. it may nip at large-polyped stony corals and clam mantles, as for others like most angels as I have been told its hit or miss with them. It should also be housed in a 30 Gal or larger tank because they can get aggressive also.

i have a goby pistol shrimp combo, a picasso semi clown, b&w clown, barlet(sp?) anthias, and a pygmy angel in my 28g tank. they all seem fine and i will be getting a flame soon. as you do your proper water changes they should be fine.
i have it with stony and nothing is wrong with them :)

Thanks for that. The reason I ask is because a friend of mine has a similar setup and he's got a pygmy that's doing quite well. I've also watched some videos on Youtube that seem to show them doing well in biocubes.

So, you are saying as long as he keeps up with his WCs he can have an angel in a 14gal tank?

I bought a randalli pistol with my watchman from SWF but they gave me one that was at most 1/2 long :p I put it in the tank and haven't seen it since... (it's been 2 weeks) :(

A 14G BioCube is no place for a pygmy angelfish.

For one, you are not the average hobbyist. In all honesty, I would never put an anthias or an angel in anything less than 30G. A 14G BioCube (which I own) is no longer a 14G tank once rock and sand is in it. At best, you'll get 12G of water out of that size tank and that is not nearly enough for a pygmy angel. Keep in mind that Pygmy angel fish need establised tanks (and 2 months is not a FAIRLY ESTABLISHED tank as the OP calls it) and a lot of swimming room and live rock to pick on, none of which can be provided by a 2 month old or a 2 year old 14G BioCube.

I have the same pistol shrimp in my 14G. My fist one was very small and it got into the back grate (on the right hand lower corner if you're looking through the front glass. He's probably in there. Do you ever hear snapping still? It was a PITA to catch him and get him out of there. I ended up cutting out the entire grate on the bottom, fill it with sand and make it his cave. Not worth it for a shrimp I barely see.

If you have the stock hood lighting system that comes with the 14G BioCube, you only have PC lighting, which is not going to work for a bubble tip anemone.

im not saying that. im saying if he does proper water changes then he should be fine with the fish he has. i forgot to mention that.

i hardly see mine but i do see usually when i feed the tank

why would you say im not an average hobbyist when you know i have a 28g tank. ii may be off 2 gallons but again ive been doing this for a while. im not saying im a expert but i had the same rock and everything in the tank for well over a year. remember i transfer the rock and everything inside over 3 tanks. i always do my proper water changes and still do many things that im not supposed but i do it since i have many sps.
many people say dont put this there or too much rock or too much this or to small of a tank but you gotta understand. every fish is different. just cause you have an anemone doesnt mean a clown will get in it. just cause you have a 150g tank doesnt mean you can put a tang and it will live better then if it was in a 55g tank. thats what i hate. people going by what they read. yea i understand it good to know and im not trying to fight or anything with you but again your saying have an anthias and a pygmy angel in 28g is bad when i have them for almost 3 months in that setup and had them for 5 months in a 29g. so i dont know why your saying im not an average hobbyist when i know what im doing and going with my experience and not always by what i read. and corals are the same way of fish. you can only have SPS with Mh yea for some reason they grow with powercompacts but turn brown.

I think she by saying you are not the average hobbyist as in a compliment. You are able to do things better for the health of the aquarium and have the knowledge/experience to back you up. You know what works for your setup. The average hobbyist typically does basic research and has basic understanding. The average hobbyist may also to the "try and see" for things to see if they can possibly work.

btl if you mean it by what gemmy said then im sorry for what i stated above. once again im not trying to say im an expert but by the way i learn from my mistakes and do things the proper way. once again if its by what gemmy said thanks, and i didnt mean to have any fights between us.

Nissan, yes I was saying it as a compliment. I wouldn't recommend a pygmy angel or an anthias in a tank of your size under usual circumstances, but you do your research and know what to look for if a fish is showing signs of stress/malnourishment/etc. I'm simply saying that some of the things that more seasoned hobbyists have done that is against the norm, should not be recommended to a beginner with a two month old tank.

I have a pygmy in my 29 gal bio. I got a possum wrasse and around 3 hours later set the new critter free. The pygmy angel turned in to the angel of death and pursued the possum wrasse and nearly killed it. I had take out the pygmy angel and waite again to return him home. Now they get along fine after I moved around the live rock. (just saying)

Just found my tiny pistol shrimp!
Turns out he made a very small, inconspicuous burrow under some of my rock. just thought you guys might like to know.
