Q About Leather Coral

My leather coral has gotten pretty big and its branches sometimes lean down and touch my galaxea coral. Should I be concerned about this? Is it bad for the galaxea or for the leather if they touch?
And if this is a problem, can I cut part of the leather off and put it in a different location?

I think that would be bad news for the leather. Galaxea is one of the most, if not the most aggressive corals out there.
You can definitely frag the leather and put them in another spot in the tank. You should be able to cut your leather quite easily. The sharper the blade the better the result would be. Try just making a one-time cut instead of going back and forth like cutting up a 12oz steak.

Yeah. Frag him. I cut my spaghetti finger all the time. I have probably fifteen large frags and the big one is still huge.

My leather also got big then started leaning over. I moved it higher thinking it might need more light but it leaned worst. Like it was trying to slide off the rock. I've moved it back to where it was.(midway) It's still looking bad. I have it under PC's and it was home to Nemo. Any suggestions?

Also, when I had it at the top it was near my green star polyps. They have not been opening since.

Does it matter where I cut the leather, what part of the branch? I wouldn't want to do it wrong and kill it.
Also read somewhere that you shouldn't frag leathers inside the tank. Why is this so?

Oh and one more thing. My leather and galaxea are in contact, but it's actually the galaxea that's retracted (the part that touches the leather) and the leather is actually fine.

I am having the same problem. Mine has got so big that when he opens all the up he touches the top of the water and leaning over and getting into it with my purple condy. I have a toadstood leather and have been told that you can't really frag them. Is that true and if not how would I go about doing this. Providing that my clown will let me stick my hand in long enough to get it out. Seems she's all upset since I moved her home to give it more room. I'll try to post a picture when I get home.

I have some of those. I think it is a spaghetti finger. I just cut off an arm at the trunk. It is pretty hard to glue them though because they are really slimy. You have to get every thing your going to glue really dry. One of the frags fell off but attached himself to another piece of LR a few inches away. Un fortunatly that piece is huge and I cant move it. Maybe someday I will get really ambitios and try to move him again but he is really happy where he is.:D

I just did my first finger leather frag about a week and a half ago. All is going fine.
I was told no matter how large or small of a frag you are going to cut, make the cut at the base of the branch. I rubberbanded the frag to the new rock with the area where the cut was made exposed to a little current flow, also recomended.

They can slime over the wound where you make the cut. Didn't happen in my case. I would think if you are only cutting one branch there would be nothing to worry about. If you were cutting several frags at one time I could see where that could create a problem.
