Try a petsmart or similar pet store. Sponge filters are hard to come by, nowadays. You may even be able to find one here, somebody that does auctions, or by googling.
I ghost fed during the mini cycle and everything was fine. Now that your ammonia is down to zero, you could probably do it.

Sponge filters are very popular and in most LFS or retail chains . You need to look in the freshwater section .

What test kits are these, and how old?
Many of these kits are notoriously inaccurate, so the first suggestion is to get the kits double checked elsewhere.
QT tanks are commonly completely bare, no rock, no sand...nothing. PVC pipe pieces are commonly used, and this sort of tank is easy to keep very clean.
Remember that "traditional" cycles in the old days (before live rock and sand)
took on average 6 to 8 weeks. I would not worry too much about results in the mean time, because with the accuracy of the kit, you may find it drives you a bit nuts

Can you also provide all of your specific tank parameters, including alkalinity?

Test kit is not old at all, 3 months and it works great on my DT. plus did water test at lfs
this is my first DT AND QT so dint' know it took that long before..
Tank is 10 G, using a aqua clear filter i think..
Haven't checked alkalinity on the QT as i was told not to check it when it was cycling, as i didn't do that with my DT but i do check it...
Did i miss anything for you? oh and i can wait as i have plenty of time..
