My 55 gallon tank has a 10 gallon QT with no rock and no substrate, just some PVC. It has a light but low light is supposed to be best.

really you dont need a bunch of stuff in your QT tank?
well i guess when u think about it u really dont need it cuz it just serves the purpose of keeping stufff in it for a short period of time.

Tim..I have two Qt's. One 15 gallon and one 30 gallon. Use one versus the other depending on the fish size. If it will be a dedicated QT tank I would NOT use substrate. Use a simple filter, a small pump to circulate water in the tank, a heater, and simple decorations...pcv, plastic plants....I would also
paint at least the bottom and back black to lower the stress on the fish (obviously paint the 'outside surface..I used a cheap spray paint in a can from a large home improvement center.. If you do not paint these areas. they get confused/stressed easily when the bottom is 'see thru'.

I agree with this post. If you plan to have "bigger" fish, such as dwarf angels, get at least a 10 gallon, but preferably a 15 or 20 long. The 20 long is best if you can afford to put out a little more money.
