QT trouble

I have two 10 g qt's that I need to use (Ich trouble). The tanks have cycled and have never had anything in them except filters, heaters etc. Nothing living, no LR or LS. All of a sudden I have nitrites in both tanks. Did a 50% water change, still have nitrites. Did another 50% water change, still have nitrites (tested w/ three different kits). Anyone have a guess as to whats going on here. I really need these tanks.

If you HAD the tank cycled, but you kept nothing living in the tank all the nitrifyin(sp?) bacteria probably died off. If you were having a nitrite problem, two 50% water changes did nothing to help it. If you really need to use the QT tanks right away... Dont do anymore water changes for now, and add a product called Cycle. Cycle is the live bacteria you need in a bottle! Its helped me in the past before in situations like these and it'll prolly help you to! :D

Tanks need to have organic material in them to maintain a cycle. In the absence of fish, fish waste, wasted food, etc., a tank will not remain cycled.

okay....I'd like to keep them set-up 24-7. How do I maintain a cycle if I'm obviously not going to be keeping fish in it permanantly? It is a QT. I added some Cycle, but it's apparent that that will not be enough. Or will it?
