depends on the size of the fish a 20 gallon long would be a better way to go for a QT if you want fish larger than 4" IMO

Usually you want a tank that's 1/4 to 1/3 the size of your DT, so that the fish that are going into your DT are comfortable in the size.
Obviously there is a limit on that, but you get the idea.
If you're a 40g or lower, a 10g should be fine. Anything over that, I would go with a 20L.
And once you get to 6' tanks, you're probably looking at a 30 or 40 just for QT.
