I put all my fish in QT for at least 6 weeks. Even fish that I watch at the LFS get put in QT.

6 weeks? Why so long? I have heard 2 weeks and 3 weeks, but never 6 weeks.

I do 4 if a very, very expensive fish and have concerns about proper feeding in a QT but longer is always better when it comes to this.
Best to catch any parasites in a controlled environment.

OK, so I am in the middle of QT of a Lawnmower Blennie. He eats great and is doing very well in the QT. It will be 2 weeks tomorrow. I was planning on pulling him after 3 weeks if I do not see any strange behavior or white spots.
Is that a bad idea?

The more the weeks, the better the odds of the parasites not being present.
I recall personal instances where ick broke out well into the second to third weeks.
May not be for all but I always ensure they are totally clean by doing a last effort by dipping them in r.o. containing a the recommended dipping dosage of Kordon's Formalyn. I have found that any fish doing fine after three weeks or so in a QT holds up just fine to a dip for a few minutes.
However, proceed as you see best.

Thanks for the info. Ladylinn, sorry for hijacking your thread. I will open a new thread on this topic.

It depends on the type of fish. If it is a tang or butterfly, then qt for six weeks to be sure. Other fish, go for 4-5 weeks. Scooter or other bottom blennies or gobies can go for 3-4. Better safe than sorry!

Consider Hypo on all fish, especially tangs. I have found that if done properly you can have a fish in and out of QT/Hypo in about 4-5 weeks. Observe in normal salinity for first week. If eating and no problems take two days to get to Hypo level, then 3 weeks in hypo and 4-5 days to get back to normal salinity. If you see other problems, treat for those problems during the QT.

This is a good idea, especialy for tangs. Some fish I would not bother to hypo such as blennies. If performed correctly with an established qt, this is a safe method.
