It would depend on where it came from. If I knew the source was a parasite free tank I wouldn't bother. If I got it from a fish store I would. Online, I'm not sure probable would depend on the source.

In the event that you don't trust where it came from is it pretty much the same as QT a fish? Does it need some sort of food source?

That's where it gets difficult. Personally the purpose would be to let any parasites die off. That would take much longer than I typically QT fish. I have never done this but if o were in that situation I'd go at least 8 weeks.
My chaeto came from Algagen.

Ok I feel a little better lol

Funny how these places give you free shipping if you order enough stuff yet it almost makes no sense lol...so they shipped the algae from algagen, one of my fish from divers den in Wisconsin, one of my fish from the ORA place in Florida and one of my fish from the live aquaria building which is in California lol not only that but they shipped the algae a day later so none of this stuff actually came in the same box to where they would save on shipping lol

Yeah that's how I got a chaeto brick last February. I ordered so I'd be home when they were delivered but the chaeto came 2 days after the fish as a frozen block. That was also the shipment where I was sent the blue hippo by mistake. I guess I came out ahead, a free fish and they refunded the money for the frozen chaeto and gave me free shipping when I reordered it a few months later when it was warmer.
