yes drip acclimate them for 1-2 hours.
most people will brush the bottom of the clam shell to make there is no flatworms present.
they can live on the sandbed given u hv enough light. but from what i hv read, they like rockwork better.

1)yes
2)no
3)croceas do best in the rockwork. if you want him on your sand bed, put a small shell or piece of flat rock under him for him to attach his foot to.

i agree with teen, croceas and maxima clams are naturally found on rock work in water no less than 15ft. may i ask what lighting you have?

An iodine dip on a clam is pretty much means instant death, and freshwater dips shouldn't be used except for a last resort.

i just traded for one yesterday, i did not acclimate, i should have, its doing really well so far, my tank has come a long way.. its under the nove extreme 39 x 4, but the clam is on a shelf rock structure a couple inches under the water, i will be upgrading the lighting soon, so i'll see how this lighting works for the time being

i know! whenever i did not acclimate a shrimp itwould die! never had a problem with crabs though, put them right in, i hope the clam won't have a problem

ok, the shrimp have left it alone for a little bit today, and it was open like normal.
my new questions are...
1. what are the holes in the mantle? are they the mouth?
2. how many should there be? i have 2 and one is pretty big and i can see all the way through to the sand, and the other one is smaller and i can see inside the clam a little bit. is this normal or did the shrimp eat the mantle
