Has any one kept one? And can it be kept in my 55, or what is the minimum tank size for a queen trigger, anything else I should know?

I never kept one , but a friend did , in a 125. It was getting a little big for that. He had 100lbs of LR in the tank, the queen turned it into 100lbs of very small pieces. IMO the queen is even more aggressive than an undalated.
Min tank size 125, 55 it would out grow to fast. They should only go with more aggressive triggers, anything else is liable to get lunched. Though he had a picasso and an undulated in there and it killed them both. Maybe this was just a mean fish , but i never wanted one after i saw what it did to his rock and fish.matter of factly niether did he.

thanks, I imagined it was going to get big since I have seen these incredibly big in the ocean but they look so peaceful, thanks for the advice.

Minimum tank size for a queen is more like 300g. They get huge. Bo

I have a Queen Trigger. They are great fish but have fun trying to get a small one. It took me nearly a year to find a small one and that was at the marine center. I got it on the first day of summer and it was around 1 in. Now he is 5 in. Queen Triggers grow extremely fast and get very large and aggressive. I have mine housed with many LARGE angel and tangs around the same size. (when i bought the queen he was real smaller then the tangs.) He is currewntly in a 240 gallon. I realize this is not big enought but I was only planning on keeping him temporarily. I will probibly keep him till he is 6 in. or so. He does not mess with any fish but my blue line trigger. So to summarize it up, they are what I hear the meanest triggers, although mine seems mild for a trigger (notice how i said for a trigger). They grow quick and get large and need huge tanks. Besides all the cons on queens he is worth the wait. They have ghreat personalitys and are very cool fish.

I love triggers! I have a 2" huma huma, 2.5" niger, 2.5" eyeliner, 1.5" undulated and 3" clown. Am I playing with fire or what?
They are in a 180 gal. with 3 larger yellow tangs, 8 damsels, a couple of wrasses, a flame angel and a tiny striped puffer. Everything's fine so far.
When do you think I'll need to worry? Now? <smile> I'm committed to providing separate and/or larger tanks in the future when it becomes necessary. Is it possible that they will continue to get along? Long term? Your wisdom and experience would be greatly appreciated.

Those triggers should be good together forever if there gettin along now. But I may be worried about the undulated, keep an eye on him. I have seen wussie undulateds to. I am not familiar with the eyeliner trigger can you describe what he looks like? The damsels will be lunch and the flame will, and what type of puffer do you have, what type of wrasses are they? If they are large aggressive wrasses they would do good, but if they are dwarfs they will become lunch. If the triggers are doing good together now they should be good w/ eachother for rest of their lives like i said before. I have in my 240 that are triggers, 5 in. niger, 4 in. queen, 4 in. blue line trigger, 4 in. clown. They are all doin good but the queen and blue line get in there arguments at times. U may need room though when all your fish get full grown. But you should do good.

I'll hold off for a bit, just in case I'm truly mad. <smile>
As for the eyeliner, they're also called red tail triggers at my LFS. I can't tell the difference anyway! She/he is a beauty. Silverish light blue with small rust colored freckles, silver/white eyerliner on the top of each eye and a rust coloring in the middle of the tail.
(The wrasses are bird and dragon. The puffer striped.)

My dad dam made a big mistake 2day is my bday and my 120 is setting up all i have now is a 40 gallon that i have a very small niger trigger in and today he comes home with a 2 or 3 inch queen trigger no pet store will take him back how long can i keep him in here he seems happy he was in a 5 gallon tank dam once again my dad should have asked but didnt i dont know wat to odo i dont want to put him in the 120 gallon wright now or ever because there 2 aggresive an i dont want to try him in there right now because i dont waant to lose a 80 dollar fish. Any advice on this bad cituation.

Even more problems i acted like a jerk and told off my dad even tho the thought is right i have no clue wat im gonna do he said its ok he will put it in his 500 gallon shark tank i exsplained the small bamboo and the nurse will get messed with he said ok ill put it in with my tangs i exsplained he didnt know how mean this fish was well i feel bad but was wondering can it go with the sharks or the tangs. The queen is like 3 to 4 inches and suprisingly he hasnt eaten a 1 inch niger trigger and 2 2inch sharpnose puffers they all went after the krill and all were sharing the same peice no probelems are there any friendly queens.

Just wondering wen the queen turns to the side u see things stiking out of her they are her color and they kinda look like little thorns really reallly small tho im wondering is this the begining of ick or is this wat all queens have as a defense mechanism. It is very hard to see the queen needs to be turned to the side and the light from the room needs to be pointed at the aquarium

I believe its ok to put it in the 500 gal,but if not, try to sell it in the trading forum, im sure many people are intereseted in the queen triggers.

Thats a good idea i think im gonna go ahead and try that on the trading frorm it really is a cool fish ive only had it 1 day and already it is swimming to the top as soon as i aproach the tank it hasnt hurt the small niger or the 2 small tobys but wen feeding time comes he gets a lil mean. Also wat do u think the lil spines are they they dont really look like white dots but i dont want it to die of a disease so if it is i wanna catch it before it is fatal i know this is rare so im taking extra percation i would hate that a rare animal is going to be taking out of the wild and killed because of something i could help. Thanks

Im gonna try and take a pic tonight it is really nice it turned out the lil spikes was just my imagination i guess i was to paranoid im about 2 lose a small niger and a valentini puffer the queen already killed my saddle puffer.

if the queen triggers are already killing the other fish go to your lfs and by another 20 gal or three or whichever with simple filtration and take water from the 500 gal to the 20 before the queen trigger starts killing any other fish.

What about an emergency "time out" in one of those kid's hobby tanks? They are very inexpensive, clear plastic tank w/a vented plastic colored lid. They float and are apx. 10"x8"x10". It think they can be used for lizards...
I've been thinking of buying one just in case one of my triggers gets aggressive. It would only be a temporary measure; but, it would be one I'd have readily available.
I've seen the LFS float these in their tanks for really delicate jelly fish or anemonies or crabs... Anything they want to keep in the tank; but, not have mingle with the tank inhabitants.

The queen is doing real well it seems. She is attacking the krill an eating alot im a lil worried about 1 thing tho the last hour she has been biting the glass non stop she will swim behind the live rock gain speed then attack the glass hard im worried shes gonna hurt her self or she has some kind of disease she has done this non stop it doesnt look normal. I mean i have seen fish do this before but never this much and there is nothing there no finger or anything that she would think is food.
