Question about Ammonia/Nitrate Detox!?

I have a question about Ammonia/Nitrate Detox.
I know the Ammonia Lock - Detox makes the ammonia non-toxic and prevents fish gills from burn - but if this is true cant I just use this once weekly or when my ammonia is super high?
What are your thoughts on this? If the ammonia and nitrates are neutralized, the bio filter will take care of them right?
If it is neutralized does that mean the fish are in the clear?

As a general rule I don't add anything to my tanks to "repair" a problem. Fix the cause, not the result kind of thing. You should keep from having spikes with good husbandry, i.e. if something dies remove it quickly, do water changes, don't vacuum the bejesus out of your deep sand bed, etc.

I agree with both of the above posters. There are no substitutes for good water care!!! In a pinch amquell does detoxify ammonia. It will still show up on a test kit though. That is why I do not trust it. There is no way to know that it is working. Why are you asking? Are there problem in your tank?
