Question about caring for my Bio Weal.

I know that if people don't take care of their bio weal it could create a nitrate problem.
So I was wondering what the proper way to care for my bio weal was?
Should I just rinse it off occasionally under warm tap water and put it back in?

If you want rinse it off if saltwater not tap water the tap water will kill the bacteria on the biowheel. As for the substrate I would change it and quick.

I have an Emperor 400 with 2 bios on it and I never did anything to them. I think you're more likely to have nitrate problems with the crush coral. I also think that rinsing it under warm water would kill off any beneficial bacteria. If the bio wheels get dirty, you can "swish"them around in the old tank water when you do a water change. Hope this helps.
